Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Karting is still a very popular sport and all circuits are busy throughout the year with race meetings and arrive-and-drive events. To avoid disappointment you should make a prior booking.
What is the minimum age?
At most tracks the youngest age allowed to use the karts is eight.
What do I need to bring along with me?
Nothing: The circuit will supply all of the equipment you will need.
What types of race are there?
There are two basis types of event; a Grand Prix or an Endurance race. A Grand Prix is for individual drivers and they will each race in a series of Heats, and a Final to determine one eventual winner. An endurance event is for teams of drivers who will race against other teams and whose aim is to record as many laps in an allotted time period.
How long will it last?
This will depend on the type of event that you choose. A Grand Prix could be anything from 60 minutes to a couple of hours and this will be governed by the number of drivers taking part. Endurance races can last from one to over three hours!
Do I need a Licence?
No, just some enthusiasm and the will to win!
Is karting dangerous?
Any form of motorsport can be dangerous but all circuits are carefully regulated and they will all have gone to extreme lengths to make sure that your visit goes off without a hitch. Your party will all receive tuition on how to handle the kart and the safety procedures that you will need to follow and every track will have trained staff on hand who will know exactly what to do in the case of an injury.
How much will it cost?
This will depend on the circuit you choose to visit and the type of event that you want to take part in. As a general rule outdoor circuits are a little more expensive than indoor venues because of their size, the type of equipment you will be using and the number of staff required to make sure that your event is run safely.
When do I need to pay?
When you make your reservation you will need to pay a 50% deposit based on the number of people racing and the type of event. The balance will then be required AT LEAST 7 days before the day of your race. Cheques and credit cards are the usual method of payment.
How many karts will be on track at the same time?
This will depend on the size and type of venue. Indoor tracks generally run up to ten karts at once but outdoor circuits can run as many as thirty at the same time.
When are the tracks open?
Most kart tracks are open throughout the year, seven days a week.
What happens if it rains and I am racing at an outdoor track?
You will get wet. There is no other way to put it I'm afraid. Although you will be provided with racing overalls these are often not waterproof and in a kart you are very exposed to the elements. Unless the conditions are horrific the race will go ahead whatever the weather.
Can I have something other than the standard race?
At Go-Kart Challenge we can put together something to suit your specific needs depending upon the size of your group. Obviously for a small party this is sometimes not possible but we will always try out best to make sure that your event matches your requirements, whether it is for five or five hundred drivers!
